Cllr. Matthew was proud to welcome our local MP, David Simmonds, to Hatch End to walk round the ward and highlight some of the new changes being introduced.

Hatch End received a visit from David Simmonds MP, who was welcomed by newly elected Ward Councillor, Matthew Goodwin-Freeman.
The visit started at the Harrow Arts Centre where a local resident, Jonathan Hutchins has their work displayed: The Daughters of New Jerusalem and My 20 Years in the Life Class, between 10th June and 10th August.

Whilst at the historic site, Matthew Goodwin-Freeman showed David Simmonds around the soon-to-be park where Matthew planted a tree to mark HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Both Matthew and David are keen to see this area be improved, turning this unused green space into an exciting area to visit, walk your dog or spend time with nature.
Matthew and David then visited the Hatch End Playing Fields, where the Jubilee celebrations started when the new Mayor of Harrow, Cllr. Janet Mote, lit the Jubilee Beacon.

Joined by staff from Harrow Council, the pair heard all about the wide range of sports and events the Playing Fields are used for, alongside suggesting some potential new activities.
After this, a visit to the Everyone Active Hatch End Swimming Pool, where the new heat pumps have recently been installed – one of the first sites in the Borough and hopefully paving the way for future environmental improvements. Matthew and David were shown the recently improved pump room.

The Swimming Pool has played a crucial role as one of the local amenities in Hatch End, providing activities for students after schools, parents and toddlers, as well as run special sessions for the elderly.
Finally, the pair visited Hatch End Railway Station, who recently won the Heart of Gold Award by charity the Railway Benefit Fund and award sponsors Amaro. Inside the station, Matthew and David admired the new flower displays and planters.

They were even given a sneak preview of the staff’s plans to create a peaceful garden alongside one of the platforms, where passengers could instead sit amongst plants and flowers whilst waiting for their train. This would also provide a fitting tribute to a recent staff member who sadly passed away.
Cllr. Goodwin-Freeman said: “Exciting things are happening in Hatch End! I am glad to be playing my part to push these forwards. Hatch End has so much to offer local residents. We all take immense pride in our Ward.”
